Sustainability and recycling are primary factors that footwear and leather goods players must consider, and they can be controlled right from the stage of creating the 3D virtual model.
The advantages of creating virtual prototypes are multiple: they give you the ability to visualize a product in realistic detail and reduce style errors during the development stages. Once the critical decisions related to the style and appearance of the 3D model have been made, the development teams can focus on the selection of the materials.
Today shoe manufacturers can use either generic, public libraries or create their own private material libraries. The RCS platform allows the creation of private material libraries which are not limited to an aesthetic function - they can be enriched with all kinds of data such as :
- traceability index (supplier, location, origin, etc.),
- perception of the quality index (longevity, durability, and reparability),
- sustainability and recycling index
These indexes will allow you in the design stage to determine the level of recyclability/ sustainability of the materials you want to use, comparing two or more materials and then choose the optimal combination in terms of sustainability/recyclability/ reparability, etc. The RCS library will also allow you to keep an accurate track of the history of the materials you used for each model.
